Head Coach Jeff Tedford has turned around an ailing California Golden Bears football program and made it one of the most exciting to watch in the Pac-10.  The 2007 season was a bit of a disappointment with the Golden Bears losing a number of players to the NFL and struggling to compete with the giants of the Pac-10. The University of California at Berkeley first began plying football in 1886.  The Golden Bears would see great success in the 1920’s and 1930’s when they would win numerous Pacific Coast Conference titles and 2 national championships.  After more success in the ‘40s and ‘50s under coach Pappy Waldorf, the school’s football program would slip into obscurity until the 1990’s, and even more so under Tedford’s leadership.  Some of the great players to wear the blue and gold include Steve Bartkowski, Tony Gonzalez, and Todd Steussie.
