The Las Vegas Bowl is an annual postseason college football bowl game played in Las Vegas, Nevada at Sam Boyd Stadium. The game is played between teams from the Pac-10 and Mountain West Conferences. Previous conference tie-ins include Mid-American, Western Athletic, and Big West conferences. The official name for the game is the Pioneer PureVision Las Vegas Bowl. First played in 1992, the Las Vegas Bowl is the successor to the California Bowl played in Fresno, California from 1982 to 1991. The game is historically noteworthy as being the first overtime game played in college football history when Toledo and Nevada played in 1995. Overtime was adopted as a tiebreaker for all college games the next season.
Sam Boyd Stadium, site of the Las Vegas Bowl, is the home of the UNLV Rebels football team and has a capacity of just under 37,000. It used to be known as the Silver Bowl until the name was changed to Sam Boyd Stadium in 1984.
