ATLANTA HAWKS EXPERIENCE:
The Atlanta Hawks were formed in 1946 in what used to be known as the Tri-Cities area of Moline and Rock Island Illinois and Davenport, Iowa. Originally named the Blackhawks, the team would move to Milwaukee, WI and then St. Louis, MO before finally settling in Atlanta in 1968. The Atlanta Hawks were NBA playoff contenders throughout the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s but have seen their fortunes change since the turn of the century. Gone are the days of high-flying Dominique Wilkins, but the Hawks have the potential to regain their former status with the new talent they’ve brought to Atlanta.

The Atlanta Hawks are members of the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference in the NBA. In their early years as a franchise, the Hawks were often considered one of the worst teams in professional hoops, as are many new franchises. It woudn't take long for this Atlanta basketball team to show their muscle, however, as the team garnered favorable criticism after their 1958 National Championship. In the years that followed, the Hawks acquired greats including Pete Maravich and Lou Hudson when they moved to Atlanta. The Hawks would win division titles in 1970, 1980, 1987 and 1994, but would not win another conference title after 1961. Since 1994, the Hawks have yet to spur a winning postseason run.

The Atlanta Hawks play their home games at Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. The arena was opened in 1999 and holds nearly 19,000.
