The Motor City Bowl is an annual postseason college football bowl game played in Detroit, Michigan. Jointly sponsored by Ford, GM, and Chrysler, the game features teams from the Mid-American Conference and Big Ten Conference. The Big East is a backup conference tie-in in case the Big Ten doesn’t have a bowl-eligible team to field.
The Motor City Bowl was first played in 1997. The game has showcased the talents of NFL players such as Byron Leftwich and Chad Pennington. It is the first bowl game played in Detroit since the now-defunct Cherry Bowl played in 1984 and 1985. The 2006 game was played between Central Michigan and Middle Tennessee in which Dan LeFevour proved to be one of the most promising freshman quarterbacks in the nation.
