The Mountain West Conference is the youngest of all the college conferences. It was founded in 1999, and its 9 member schools are located primarily in the western United States. The terrain covered by the geographical expanse of the conference is likely the most diverse of any, as it contains the Rocky Mountain range, the Utah Salt Flats, and the arid plateaus of New Mexico. In 2005, TCU joined the conference line-up, adding to the western geographical and cultural flavor of the region.
Some notable football rivalries include (with trophy):
Air Force vs. Army & Navy (Commander in Chief’s Trophy)
Utah vs. Utah State (Beehive Boot trophy)
Colorado vs. Colorado State (Centennial Cup)
New Mexico vs. New Mexico State (Rio Grande Rivalry)
UNLV vs. Nevada (Fremont Cannon)
