The New Orleans Hornets are in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA).  The Hornets were formed in 1988 as the Charlotte Hornets.  The team rose to prominence throughout the 1990’s behind the leadership of NBA greats like Larry Johnson, Vlade Divac, Glenn Rice, and Alonzo Mourning.  The Hornets made regular playoff appearances but were unable to reach a championship.  The Hornets’ ownership moved the team to New Orleans in 2002, but in 2005 Hurricane Katrina forced the team to relocate to Oklahoma City for more than two years as New Orleans recovered from the storm.  The Hornets have returned to New Orleans Arena for the 2007 season.
