The Ottawa Senators have been a perennial playoff team and, with their trip to the Stanley Cup Finals last season, they are one of the key teams to watch in the NHL this year. The team has already made a strong start this season. With 6 players nominated as All-Stars – more than any other team in the league – it’s obvious that the Ottawa Senators are the team to beat in the East. A home game at Scotiabank Place this season will make fans hark back to the glory days of the original Senators teams of the early 20th century. The Ottawa Senators play hockey in the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The team was founded in 1991 after an intense “Bring Back the Senators” campaign – the original Ottawa Senators left the city 1934 to move to St. Louis and eventually were disbanded. The team began with the draft bust of Alexandre Daigle, who as highly touted but eventually traded for under-performing for Ottawa. The Ottawa Senators would begin to improve in the late 1990’s and has now become a Stanley Cup contender winning the President’s Trophy in 2003 and the Prince of Wales Trophy in 2007. The Ottawa Senators play in one of the largest arenas in the NHL, the 20,000 plus capacity Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, Ontario. The arena was designed for hockey, making it the perfect place to see a game. The furthest seat from the ice is only 138 away.
