The Washington Huskies first fielded a football team in 1889.  In the early 1900’s the Huskies had remarkable success under head coach Gil Dobie, who managed to coach the team to incredible 68 straight wins.  Washington has made 30 bowl game appearances, won 2 national championships, and 15 conference titles.  In one of college football’s most memorable games, the Huskies played Oklahoma in the 1985 Orange Bowl.  The Sooner Schooner wagon was accidentally driven on the field after a penalty nullified an OU field goal attempt.  The ensuing attempt was blocked, shifting momentum to Washington who would win the game 28-17.
