The Honda Center, known as Arrowhead Pond until 2006, is the home of the Anaheim Ducks and is one of the most impressive sports and entertainment venues in the country. In addition to showcasing some of the best sports action the NHL has to offer, the Honda Center has also hosted a regional bracket for the NCAA men's basketball tournament, the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus and the NCAA men's hockey Frozen Four. Even after the name change, the arena is affectionately known as "The Pond" and boasts a seating capacity of more than 17,000. Situated in the heart of Orange County, the Honda Center sits in one of the most beautiful spots in the country and fans have grown to love the versatility of the building.
The Anaheim Ducks entered the league in 1993 as The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, named after the hit hockey-themed kids movie of the same name. While some hockey purists cringed at the namesake, the Ducks soon showed the rest of the league that they were here to say. Even during the team's first season, the Ducks defeated the eventual Stanley Cup champion New York Rangers twice and laid a solid foundation for competitive play. The Ducks would make the postseason a number of times in the late '90s and early 2000s, but it wasn't until 2007 when the team finally made it to the promised land.
The Ducks won their first and only title in 2007 behind the strength of defensemen Chris Pronger and Scott Niedermeyer and scoring specialists Andy McDonald, Teemu Selanne and Ryan Getzlaf. The Ducks were pitted against the Ottawa Senators in the Stanley Cup Finals and the series proved to be one of the best in years. The Ducks triumphed in 7 games and hoisted a black, gold and orange banner to the rafters the following year.
The Honda Center has also been home to some of the best musical performances to ever pass through Southern California, and the arena kicked it off with a bang with a sold out show by Barry Manilow. The venue would go on to host such highly-grossing tours as Aerosmith's Rockin' The Joint Tour, U2's Vertigo Tour and No Doubt's Music for Relief Tour. Between the stellar play on the ice and the ever-expanding list of upcoming events, the Honda Center always seems to have something for everyone.
