It may be overshadowed by the nearby cities of Dallas and Fort Worth, but Arlington, Texas, is a hidden gem in the Lone Star State. It has all of the advantages of a bustling city, yet is not overcrowded. Arlington offers a broad scope of sites to visit, from theme parks to sporting events to historical attractions. With enough to appeal to any visitor, guests would certainly be remiss not to spend at least a day or two in this southern enclave.
Perhaps most notably, Arlington is home to some of the country's most recognizable sports franchises. Although the Dallas Cowboys are connected to the nearby metropolis, America's Team plays in Arlington’s Cowboys Stadium, which is a sight to behold. The building is one of the most impressive sports venues in the world. Team owner Jerry Jones' vision was completed in 2009, and features beautiful amenities, including its massive video screen. At 152-by-72 feet, the center-hung HDTV screen is the largest of its kind in the world.
While the Cowboys may be the best known, they are certainly not the only team from Arlington to make headlines. The Texas Rangers are among one of the most exciting teams in the MLB, play at the aptly named Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The franchise made it to their first World Series in 2010.
Of course, Arlington has much more than just a diverse sports scene. The city is also home to Six Flags Over Texas, which is the oldest Six Flags park in the United States. Opened in 1961, the park features some of the best rides in the country. The Titan roller coaster is one of the most recognizable in the U.S., and with a stomach-wrenching 255-foot drop and a top speed of 85 miles per hour, it is the tallest and fastest coaster in the state of Texas.
If you're lucky enough to be in town for the Fourth of July, you'll be treated to one of the best parades in the country. It's the largest parade in the state, which is saying something because as everyone knows, everything is bigger in Texas.
If you happen to be more inclined to spend a night taking in some more high-brow entertainment, the city is also home to Theatre Arlington–one of the largest community theaters in the country. Its 199 seat auditorium offers an intimate setting and provides quality shows night after night.
