Austin, Texas has become one of the fastest growing cities in the United States and for a good reason. The city contains an array of qualities that appeal to everyone visiting, usually bringing them back again and again. Activities in Austin span from Texas Longhorn sports to the never ending list of live music shows. During the fall months one of the best places to be for a Texas Longhorn football game is downtown at DKR Memorial Stadium among the sea of fans in burnt orange or drop by the Erwin Center for a UT basketball game and each Spring head out to UFCU Disch Falk Field to watch the UT baseball team.
Austin is also a great place to catch some live music and is often referred to as "the Live Music Capitol of the World", a name it lives up to with the numerous concert venues in-town. Every week there are great concerts at Stubb's, Austin360 Amphitheater and the Frank Erwin Center and TicketCity is always a great way to keep up with the different acts coming in and out of the city. Though catching a show on a nightly basis at one of the many Austin area venues is great the best way to experience live music in Austin is at the ACL Music Festival.
The Austin City Limits Music Festival brings one of the largest crowds to Austin's Zilker Park every year. With more than 150 bands and local food vendors doing what they do best for two weekends in a row the ACL Fest has become iconic to the Austin culture. Not to be confused with ACL Live at Moody Theatre which is constantly bringing great talent to Austin, the ACL Music Festival is one of the largest music fests in the nation. ACL is a great way to discover your new favorite band or enjoy your current favorites on stage. From Bob Dylan to the String Cheese Incident the Austin City Limits Music Festival is the perfect way to experience Austin, Texas.
Another great way to catch some live music in Austin is at the Austin Rodeo. The Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo has been a staple to the capital cities tradition for decades. Rodeo Austin comes to life for two weeks out of the year in March filling the Travis County Expo Center with all the bull riding and country music any rodeo fan could ask for. Getting out to the Expo Center for the Austin Rodeo offers a great way to experience the country side of this diverse city.
Austin is not just football and music though, theatre fans can warm up to Broadway touring shows, great comedy acts or other great performances at the Long Center's Michael & Susan Dell theatre, Bass Concert Hall or the Paramount. Shows at the historic Paramount have a special feel to them because the theatre has been around since 1915. Everything from Wicked to the Lion King has been featured at Austin's top theaters.
The newest edition to Austin's attractions comes in the form of Grand Prix Racing. The multi-purpose venue known as the Circuit of the Americas was built in 2012 to host the United States Grand Prix. The Formula One race track has also gone on to host multiple other racing events such as the MotoGP and V8 Supercar races. COTA's grounds also hold Austin's new concert venue, the Austin360 Amphitheater. The new amphitheater has already caught the eye of Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band, Mumford & Sons, and Dave Matthews Band as they are all among the firsts to break in Austin's newest live music hot spot.
If you have never been to Austin, then come on down to enjoy the exciting concerts, sports and theatre shows that are part of the city's fabric. Every weekend there is something exciting to do, so buy some Austin tickets and experience the excitement of the 'Live Music Capital'.
