Emos 5 5 1 1
Emo's Austin Texas Let me begin by saying that, I simply love Emo's! It could be that I am biased because bands that I love tend to regularly play there, or it just could be for the overall experience itself-most likely, I love it for both reasons. The interesting thing to note about Emo's is that it seems to strike you initially as being, somehow, simultaneously cramped, yet also adequately spacious. The layout for the outter venue is a bit odd. You have on the right side, in line with the stage, standing room (which fills quickly) for the fans and on the left side, you find a bar and bleacher seating. The addition of this bleacher seating is what seems to add a lot of room to the venue itself. If you love it loud and grimey, you'll hit the standing room on the right. If you would rather relax and possibly chat with old or new friends, you'll be camping on the left. As for the inside of Emo's, it typically befits the traditional Austin live venue scene. A rather smallish space, which is actually square, not rectangular, as a majority of the "holes" on 6th and surrounding streets have evolved over the years. The inner room is where you will find another bar, ample standing room, and some additional seating (bleacher-style) against the wall, stage right. Now, for those who fancy having a drink (or twelve) while you enjoy the show, Emo's is going to put a smile on your wallet, but not neccesarilly on your pallet. They have the traditional offering of beers that you would expect to find in bar that showcases rock, hard-rock, hard-core, etc. but nothing, that I remember, for the hop-heads out there. The drinks can be very inexpensive depending on your preference. If you like tall-boys that are ice-cold at a great price, this is your venue! Great place to go and I would suggest this to any of my friends for a great night out. Oh yes, and there is an outdoor area, limited, but with picnic tables for lounging, and another bar conveniently situated in-between the two areas. August 9, 2010
