The first edition of the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl left fans on the edge of their seats until the final seconds of the game. The Horned Frogs came out in the first half with furry shutting out the Spartans and taking a 13 point lead. The second half would prove to tell a different story as Michigan State would find the endzone for 14 unanswered points and take a crucial one point lead in the fourth quarter. That one point would prove to be the deciding factor after field goals from both teams in the 4th left the Spartans ahead 17-16.

The Buffalo Wild Wings is an annual postseason college football bowl game played in Tempe, Arizona. The game features teams from the Big 12 and Big Ten conferences. Previous conference tie-ins included teams from the Big East and Pac-12. The Insight Bowl was originally called the Copper Bowl and was first played in 1989. The bowl game was played in Phoenix and then moved to Tucson before settling at its current location in Tempe. Insight Enterprises took over sponsorship in 1996 and changed the name to reflect the partnership. In 2012, after the bowl games 24th season, Buffalo Wild Wings replaced Insight Enterprises as title sponsor changing the name to the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl Game.
The largest comeback in a postseason college game took place at the 2006 Insight Bowl when Texas Tech overcame a 38-7 deficit in the third quarter to beat Minnesota 44-41 in overtime. The bowl has also featured NFL stars such as Marc Bulger and Drew Bledsoe.
Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, site of the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl, is also the home of the Arizona State Sun Devils, and has a capacity of nearly 74,000. The stadium has been host to the NFL's Arizona Cardinals as well as the Fiesta Bowl and the first stand-alone NCAA Championship game in 2007.
