The Champs Sports Bowl is an annual college football bowl game played at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida. From 1990 to 2000, the game took place at Pro Player Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. The game pits one team from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) against a team from the Big Ten Conference, and is held between Christmas and New Year’s and is broadcasted on ESPN.
Started in 1990, the Champs Sports Bowl has had a few different names – the Sunshine Classic, the Blockbuster Bowl, the MicronPC Bowl, the Mazda Bowl and the Carquest Bowl. Who could forget the memorable game in 2000 between NC State and Minnesota? Led by Phillip Rivers, NC State mounted a comeback from a 24-point deficit to win the game 38-30.
