Gator Bowl Preview History
2012 Gator Bowl Game Preview:
Call it the battle of the ghost of Urban Meyer—except he’s still with us, and he’s currently coaching neither team. However, with 6-6 Ohio State Buckeyes awaiting his arrival in 2012 and 6-6 Florida Gators still trying to find its way after his departure in 2009, there will be a lot of talk about him as January 2nd rolls around. The talk should be about how similar these two teams are (besides their records), and what a great match-up it should be. The only major difference between the team is the Buckeyes’ ability to run more, which should be a great test for an up and coming Florida defense.
2011 Gator Bowl Game Preview:
The Gator Bowl on New Year's Day promises to be an atypical Big Ten- SEC showdown as two of the more prolific offenses—the Rich Rodriguez-led Michigan Wolverines and Dan Mullen's Mississippi State Bulldogs—will highlight their spread offenses instead of the usual smash-mouth defenses they're known for.
Michigan comes in on the heels of quarterback Denard Robinson, who led the team in both passing (with 2,316 yards) and rushing (1,643 yards). He helped the team achieve the sixth-highest total yardage in college football this year with a tick over 500 yards per game. However, the Wolverine defense has had the opposite of Robinson's spectacular season, ranking 102nd in Division 1 in points given up.
Mississippi State could have a field day with against the Wolverines its own dual-threat QB in Chris Reif. He rushed for 683 yards and leading rusher Vick Ballard trotted in for 16 scores, which could be bad news for a struggling defense. The Bulldogs understandably stumbled a bit after their defensive end Nick Bell died of cancer, but they've won seven of their last nine and look to be a formidable foe for Rodriguez and the Wolverines.
2010 Gator Bowl Game Preview:
The 2010 Gator Bowl will be a historic college football bowl game. That is because this bowl game will be the last college football game for legendary Florida State Head Coach Bobby Bowden. Bowden's FSU Seminoles will take on the West Virginia Mountaineers in what is sure to be one of the most talked about bowl games of the season.
