GoDaddycom Bowl Preview History
2014 GoDaddy.com Bowl Preview
The 2014 GoDaddy.com Bowl will be played on Sunday, January 5th at 8 PM between the Ball State Cardinals and the Arkansas State Red Wolves. Arkansas State is playing in the GoDaddy Bowl for the third straight year, and while they won’t have their head coach, they’ll still have the same team that won 4 of its last 5 to get bowl eligible. The Red Wolves started off the season 2-3 after losses to Auburn, Memphis and Mizzou, but were able to rebound to tie for the best record in the Sun Belt. Primarily a rushing team, Ark State ranked 25th in the country in rushing yards and will provide a stable running game in the face of a high-flying passing attack from Ball State.
Ball State had few hiccups in an otherwise solid season, finishing with a 10-2 record, good enough for 2nd in the MAC behind Northern Illinois. They lost to only the Huskies and North Texas, beating Army, Virginia and Miami (OH) in the process of getting the GoDaddy Bowl bid. The Cardinals rank 9th in the nation in passing yards, as well as 12th overall in points scored – averaging slightly over 40 per game. The game could go the Cardinals way early if the Arkansas State defense isn’t up to the task defensively or if there’s any hangover from the loss of head coach Bryan Harsin to Boise.
