The game was plagued by poor attendance and was eventually moved to Memphis in 1965, after a brief stint in Atlantic City. In Atlantic City the game was played in 6,000 seat Convention hall, and was the first indoor college bowl game ever played. The game has showcased future NFL talent such as Randy White, Bo Jackson, and Doug Flutie.
