It's been called "the sweet science" and dates back to the Greek Olympic Games as early as 687 BC. The sport of boxing has undergone some of the most dramatic evolution's in all of sports, even given berth to numerous other forms of combat sporting. The modern form of boxing we know today surfaced around the 17th century as "Fist Fighting" or "prizefighting". With no written rules or referee, the sport of boxing became extremely chaotic leading to the first set of rules in Boxing, Broughton's rules.
Since these rules the sport has gone on to feature some of the best fighters in the world. From Muhammed Ali, George Foreman, and Joe Frasiar to the new age boxers like Tyson, Mayweather, and De la Hoya, the boxer continues to evolve with the sport. Though the sport now shares the spotlight with UFC, MMA, and Wrestling, "the sweet science" of boxing is still very much alive. Get into a fight night at Madison Square Garden in New York or the MGM Garden Arena in Vegas and see why this great sport has been around for so long.
