2008-2009 Boston College Basketball Preview:
The Boston College Eagles Men’s Basketball team is a strong contender for the ACC title, and a trip to the NCAA Basketball Tournament this year.  Head coach Al Skinner has built a reputation on finding diamond-in-the-rough student athletes that other schools overlook.  Conte Forum will rock again this season as Eagles fans cheer on a Boston College team that has built itself into a basketball powerhouse.

BOSTON COLLEGE EAGLES INFORMATION:
Location:
 Boston, Massachusetts
Stadium: Conte Forum
Conference: ACC Conference
Rivals: Notre Dame, University of Massacusetts (UMass),
Mascot: Baldwin

The Boston College Eagles first started playing basketball in 1904.  Basketball’s slight popularity caused the program to be discontinued and restarted a number of times.  The 1963 hiring of Celtics legend Bob Cousy really put the Eagles program on the map.  Boston College has 4 Big East Conference titles to the program’s credit, as well as 3 Conference Tournament titles in the Big East and ECAC New England.  BC has sent many talented players on to the NBA such as Troy Bell and Dana Barros.

The doors of opportunity swung wide open for the Eagles as the Big East Conference formed just in time for the 1979-80 season.  As a memeber of the Big East, Boston College would benefit from more exposure and better competition, which would improve recruiting efforts.  The program's alliance with the Big East Conference led to the BC Eagles advancing to the Elite Eight in the 1982 NCAA Tournament, and winning the Big East Tournament in 1997 and 2001.

In 1997, Al Skinner came to The Heights to coach the Eagles.  His presence was immediately felt, and BC went on to win 27 out of 32 games in the 2000-2001 season.  Their 27-5 record set a school record for wins in a single season, and the team went on to win the Big East title and a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament.  The Eagles had recovered their true court form, and had broken their streak of sub .500 wins.  At Boston College, the Eagles were playing basketball like seasoned veterans.

The Boston College Eagles play their home games at the Silvio O. Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.  Opened in 1988 with a capacity of 8,606, the Conte Forum is home to BC basketball - men’s and women’s - as well as the Eagles ice hockey team.  Visitors to an Eagles game will be stunned by the volume of the crowd and the rich basketball tradition evident at this stunning venue.  Buy Boston College basketball tickets today and watch the Eagles compete for their first ACC title!
