2011-2012 Boston College Eagles College Basketball Preview:

The Boston College Eagles are focusing on providing an electrifying 2011-2012 season for their fans. The team was 34th overall in assists last year and is looking to improve upon their skilled passing attack coming into their first game. The roster includes a nice harvest of young talent with eight of 13 players coming in as freshmen.

Although the team has lost star Reggie Jackson to the NBA draft, this new crop of recently signed stars are likely to add a bit of punch to the offense. Freshmen John Cain Carney and Ryan Kilcullen add some size and speed to the team. Kilcullen's resume is especially impressive. The 6' 7" forward played at Philips Exeter Academy and averaged 16 points and 7 rebounds to capture NEPSAC All-New England second team honors.

Defensively, the Eagles have faith in 6' 11" center Kyle Caudill as their answer in the middle of the circle. The 290-pound freshman has stated that he isn't afraid to get throw his weight around, and that’s important in the ACC. He's been working hard in the off-season to improve his game and hopes to showcase his skills come winter.

New players in an exciting and always competitive ACC conference will provide for some great matchups for the Eagles this year.

The Boston College Eagles first started playing basketball in 1904. Basketball’s slight popularity caused the program to be discontinued and restarted a number of times. The 1963 hiring of Celtics legend Bob Cousy really put the Eagles program on the map. Boston College has 4 Big East Conference titles to the program’s credit, as well as 3 Conference Tournament titles in the Big East and ECAC New England. BC has sent many talented players on to the NBA such as Troy Bell and Dana Barros.

The doors of opportunity swung wide open for the Eagles as the Big East Conference formed just in time for the 1979-80 season. As a memeber of the Big East, Boston College would benefit from more exposure and better competition, which would improve recruiting efforts. The program's alliance with the Big East Conference led to the BC Eagles advancing to the Elite Eight in the 1982 NCAA Tournament, and winning the Big East Tournament in 1997 and 2001.

In 1997, Al Skinner came to The Heights to coach the Eagles. His presence was immediately felt, and BC went on to win 27 out of 32 games in the 2000-2001 season. Their 27-5 record set a Boston College record for wins in a single season, and the team went on to win the Big East title and a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles had recovered their true court form, and had broken their streak of sub .500 wins. At Boston College, the Eagles were playing basketball like seasoned veterans.

The Boston College Eagles play their home games at the Silvio O. Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. Opened in 1988 with a capacity of 8,606, the Conte Forum is home to BC basketball - men’s and women’s - as well as the Eagles ice hockey team. Visitors to an Eagles game will be stunned by the volume of the crowd and the rich basketball tradition evident at this stunning venue.
