2011-2012 Miami Hurricanes College Basketball Preview:
The Miami Hurricanes’ season year promises to be explosive as Coach Jim Larranaga and his boys look to show up at the NCAA tournament for the second year in a row. The legendary leader was inducted into the New York City Basketball Hall of Fame in September for his accomplishments.
CBS Sports ranked Miami at 7th in the division and the crew hopes to do even better than anticipated. This year the Hurricanes picked up freshman Bishop Daniels, a native out of Raleigh, North Carolina, to help add a bit of punch to the offense. The 6' 3" guard will be shaking and baking out there on the floor and helping to put some points up on the boards with his shooting skills.
On the defensive side of things, the 'Canes will see the return of centers Kenny Kadji and Julian Gamble, two kids with enough speed to be able to transition to the guard position. With a combined weight of over 500 pounds, these two big bodies will help keep speed out of the lane and have the height to block shots.

The University of Miami's basketball program has rollercoastered during its lifespan. In 1972, the Board of Trustees suspended the program due to insufficient finances and low attendance. However, the program was reinstated before the 1985-86 season. The Hurricanes basketball team was minimally competitive until Miami hired Leonard Hamilton to coach the struggling team. By the end of the decade, Hamilton led the Hurricanes to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2000. During the 2007-08 season, the Hurricanes exceeded expectations and started the season on 12 straight wins.
