2011-2012 NC State Wolfpack College Basketball Preview:
The Wolfpack is set to rise again in the ACC this season with new coach Mark Gottfried. The former leader of the Alabama Crimson Tide, who compiled a 210-132 record with the organization, took U of A to the NCAA tournament five times, and is looking again to bring hoops fever back to Raleigh.
Although the NC State hoops program lost leading scorer Tracy Smith this season, fans should look out for sophomore C.J. Leslie. This 6' 9" power forward from the Word of God Christian Academy averaged 12.7 points last year and was ranked third among freshmen in points scored and second in rebounds with 6.2 per game.
On the defensive side of things, Wolfpack fans may see a quicker, more agile force to be reckoned with. Richard Howell, now a junior, came back from the summer 20 pounds leaner and is anxious to get back out on the court. With returning seniors Kendall Smith and C.J. Williams, and a number of agile players with mass to boot, NC State may be back at the top of the conference this year.

The NC State Wolfpack basketball team was first fielded in 1911, and began intercollegiate play the same year. During the 97-year history of the program, the team has racked-up enough victories to place them in the top 25 winningest program of all-time. The North Carolina State basketball team has produced several star players over the years, including Tom Burleson, Rodney Monroe, Ron Shavlik and David Thompson. The Wolfpack has captured two national titles and three Final Four appearances in its team history.
The NC State Wolfpack play their home games at the RBC Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. The capacity of the arena is about 19,700 seats, and also accomodates hockey games with limited seating. The Carolina Hurricanes play their home hockey games at the facility. The arena is the tenth largest in the NCAA.
