DUQUESNE DUKES INFORMATION
The Duquesne Dukes have been playing basketball since 1914, when the administration at the university established basketball as a varsity program. A proper gymnasium was appropriated for the program in 1923, and the team was finally given a true home in which to play hoops. Duquesne received a berth to the NCAA Tournament in 1940, and made it all the way to the Final Four. The 1950's ushered in an era of success for the Dukes, and Donald "Dudley" Moore lead his team to six NIT bids. The 1952-53 season is still the most successful season on record for the Dukes, as the team went 21-1.
The Duquesne Dukes play their home games at the A.J. Palumbo Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The arena, which opened in 1988, seats 5,358 fans, and hosts Duquesne's basketball, volleyball and wrestling programs.
