Kansas State Wildcats 2011-12 Men's College Basketball Preview
There are three things Frank Martin always bring to the table: intensity, 20-win seasons and NCAA tournament berths. Last year, the Kansas State Wildcats coach brought the school its fourth straight of both the former and latter under him, and is looking to make it five despite the loss of Jacob Pullen and his points.
The main spoke will have to be junior shooting guard Rodney McGruder, who will have to lead the team after learning how to do it for two years playing with Pullen. McGruder is a fantastic shooter who has range (averaging two three-pointers a game) and had 11.1 points per game. But to make up for Pullen’s points and leadership, McGruder will need help from three other team vets, fellow junior SG Martavious Irving, sophomore point guard Will Spradling and sophomore guard/forward hybrid Shane Southwell. If they live up to their promise that got them to Manhattan, then Frank Martin will surely get his fifth 20-win season and NCAA Tournament push.

The Kansas State basketball program dates back to 1902 and has a long list of accolades to its credit. The Wildcats won the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) championship in 1917 and 1919, and have managed to win a total of 17 conference titles as of 2007. KState has appeared in the NCAA Tournament 22 times, playing for the National Championship in 1951 and losing to Kentucky. Who can forget the 1981 NCAA tourney win against #2 ranked Oregon State - a nail biter that finished 50-48? Or the 83-80 victory over Cincinnati, a team led by Oscar Robertson, in 1958. That game was dubbed “the game of the year” by Sports Illustrated. Kansas State’s main rival is powerhouse Kansas, whom they play in the “Sunflower Showdown”. Although the Jayhawks lead the series, look for KState to take another one back this season.
The Wildcats play their home games at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, Kansas. Bramlage Coliseum holds 12,500 spectators for basketball games. Student seats are located behind the benches. The arena is built in a pit-like configuration giving the impression that the seats loom over the playing surface, giving every seat in the arena a good view of the action, and making visiting teams feel overwhelmed by the home support. Bramlage provides a loud, frenzied, action-packed venue for a basketball game. Buy Kansas State Wildcats basketball tickets and don’t miss any of the action!
