The University of Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team is one of the youngest teams in college basketball, and with a new coach in Doc Sadler, former assistant to now legendary program re-builder Billie Gillespie, the Huskers will look to turn their program woes around this season. The current team is built around senior center Aleks Meric. He finished 4th in the conference in scoring last season and 2nd in rebounding. Sadler and the Nebraska Cornhuskers will try to turn the program around this season, and hopefully break their NCAA Tournament losing streak. The Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball program was founded in 1896. The team’s first trip to the NCAA Tournament wasn’t until 1986. The Nebraska Cornhuskers have the dubious distinction of never winning an NCAA Tournament game. Danny Nee coached the team from 1987 to 2000 and is the most successful coach in Nebraska history. Nee coached the team to 5 of their 6 NCAA Tournament appearances, 6 NIT Tournament appearances, and a trip to the NIT Championship game in 1996. Barry Collier coached Nebraska from 2000 to 2006 when Doc Sadler took over the team.
