Oklahoma State Cowboys 2011-12 Men's College Basketball Preview
The Cowboys are looking to start the 2011-12 season fast, but they will have to get over the possible loss of their start player – Darrell Williams – due to off the court issues. They will be planning to shift the focus around in case Willams is lost, and head coach Travis Ford believes he knows where to start.
Freshman forward phenom and McDonald’s All-American LeBryan Nash comes into Stillwater as a hope for prominence for the one-time NCAA Tournament mainstay. The 6’7, 212-pound Nash will fill the three slot, and with junior guard/forward hybrid J.P. Olukemi, will fill the middle of a small lineup. The roster fills out with some dynamic small scorers like the 5’9 senior guard Deiton Page, a three point shooter who will look to thrive in this lineup.
The ‘Boys will look to run a lot more in a conference where big men have been the rule, not the exception.

Oklahoma State Cowboys first fielded a basketball team in the 1907-1908 season. The team's first success came in the ‘30s and ‘40s when coach Henry Iba led the Oklahoma State Cowboys to be the first team in history to win back-to-back NCAA Championships in 1945 and 1946. Iba coached 36 years, winning 655 games and establishing a reputation for defensive-minded basketball. Oklahoma State would see success again under Eddie Sutton, who took over the coaching job in 1990. Sutton had coached under Iba, and he led the team to 2 NCAA Final Four appearances in 1995 and 2004. Sutton's tenure as coach took a major blow in 2001 when a plane carrying some of the Oklahoma State Cowboys team along with the director of basketball operations, athletic trainers and other members of the organization crashed on the way home from a loss at Colorado. The Oklahoma State Cowboys would use their grief to rally the team and managed still to make a competitive run in the Big 12.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys play their home games as Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The arena holds over 13,000, and is famously so loud that 8,300 students once managed to bust many of the arena lights with the volume of their cheering.
