2011-2012 Georgetown Hoyas College Basketball Preview:
As a team forever steeped in basketball tradition, the Hoyas are fired up and ready to deliver another great season for their fans. The squad was 21-10 last season and sported a winning record in Big East competition, but exited in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The guys may still be contemplating this defeat and will be looking to go deep into the brackets come 2012.
Although the team lost Austin Freeman, returning guard Jason Clark will be looking to fill the standout's shoes. This athlete started in all 34 games last year and averaged 10.5 points, many of which came from three-point land where he splashed the net 67 percent of the time. His quickness and ball handling skills will be sure to elevate the Hoyas' gameplay this season.
Defensively, Georgetown is small in stature, but can even things out with quickness and conditioning over size and strength. Fans should see great play from upperclassmen Hollis Thompson and Henry Sims, who will put their knowledge of the game to good use during tight situations. All in all, Hoyas fans will be impressed with the work that has been done in the offseason and should look forward to a great 2011-2012 round of basketball.

The Georgetown Hoyas are one of the premiere teams in all of college basketball. The Hoyas are one of the legendary teams in the sport, and have a long and rich tradition of success. From the successes GU had with Hall of Fame coach John Thompson to the strong teams led by his son, John Thompson III. Georgetown basketball has continued to be one of 'the teams' in NCAA basketball. Who could forget the great Hoyas teams in the 80's led by superstar Patrick Ewing. Playing in a few Final Fours and winning a National Championship in 1984. Or Allen Iverson's exciting Hoya teams from the 1990's. Georgetown basketball has always been fun to watch.
Georgetown plays their home basketball games at the Verizon Center in Washington DC. The Verizon Center is a multi-use facility in DC that caters to concerts, sports and other events. It is also the home of the Washington Wizards, Capitals and Mystics. The Verizon Center opened in 1997 and has a capacity for basketball of approximately 20,000 fans. The Verizon Center is owned by Washington Sports & Entertainment.
The Georgetown Hoyas play in the Big East Conference. The Hoyas are an NCAA Division I program.
