2011-2012 Louisville Cardinals College Basketball Preview:
The Cardinals sported a whopping 25-9 record last season and were 12-6 in Big East play, despite having 10 players who missed games due to injuries - not bad for the kids from Louisville. Although the club has lost their star player, Preston Knowles, a number of new additions and returning athletes will be able to step up and hopefully match last year's stellar performance.
Coach Rick Pitino may have been the X-factor in the Cardinals' exceptional play. Going into his eleventh year with the squad, he's boasting a 597-220 record. He and his staff picked up a group of quality freshman for the 2011-2012 season including Angel Nunez, a forward from Washington Heights, New York. This kid was ranked at number 32 for all incoming to the NCAA this year by ESPN, he'll be a factor in big games.
Another newcomer, Zach Price, could be a big presence on defense. He's not only big at 6' 10" and 235 pounds, but he shot 63 percent from the field his senior year in high school. With this big man down low and other new additions providing support, the Cards are going to be a handful for any of their opponents this year.
