The Marquette basketball program was founded in 1916. The team first competed as an independent before joining the Midwest Collegiate Conference in 1989. The Marquette Golden Eagles would change conferences three more times become part of the Great Midwest Conference, the Conference USA, and finally joining the Big East in 2005. The team played for a national title in 1974 but lost. In 1977, the Marquette Golden Eagles won the NCAA Tournament coached by Al McGuire and with the leadership of Maurice “Bo” Ellis on the court. Ellis remains the only Marquette player ever to play in two Final Fours.

More recently, in 2003 Tom Crean coached the team to another Final Four appearance behind the leadership of Dwyane Wade. The team defeated top ranked Kentucky in the Elite Eight to reach the quarterfinals, and Wade would be one of only four players ever to score a triple-double in the NCAA Tournament. With such a storied past, the Golden Eagles will settle for nothing less for its future.

Marquette plays their home games at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The arena is also home to the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks.
