The Providence Friars basketball team was highly successful in the 1960's, winning the 1961 and 1963 NIT basketball championships. The Friars have received 15 NCAA Tournament berths and 16 NIT berths in their history. Notable coaches including Joe Mullaney and Rick Pitino have emerged from the program.
