2011-2012 Syracuse Orange College Basketball Preview:

It's going to be a big year for the Orange. Head coach Jim Boehiem picked up some serious talent in the off-season and will surely be leading the team down the road to multiple victories come November.

The biggest news for this season is the introduction of local player Dajuan Coleman. The New York native had been considering other colleges but chose to remain close to home. This kid is nasty - at 6' 10" and 280 pounds he's got the bulk and inside presence that the squad needs. Coleman is a scoring machine. In his junior year of high school he averaged 24.5 points and a big 14 rebounds.

Speaking of rebounds, Syracuse will look to dominate the glass with freshman leaping machine Jerami Grant, a small forward who was ranked as the 43rd player in the ESPNU 100. Fans should look for Grant to use his explosiveness and speed to help the team pick up some big wins. The Big East is ultra-competitive this year, but with athletes like these, the Orange seem to have the early advantage.

SYRACUSE ORANGE BASKETBALL INFORMATION:
Location:
Syracuse, New York
Stadium: Carrier Dome
Conference: Big East
Rivals: St. Johns Red Storm, Georgetown Hoyas

Syracuse first fielded a basketball team in 1899, and were successful early in their history. The Orange won their first national championships in 1918 and 1926. The 1926 team was lead by coach Lew Andreas, who coached no other than basketball Hall of Famer Vic Hanson. The Orange also posted successful seasons in the late 1960's, 1970's and late 1980's, reaching the NCAA Tournament in 1984-86. In 2003, the school recorded its first NCAA championship.

Syracuse plays their home games at the Carrier Dome on the campus of Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. Syracuse Orange football, basketball and lacrosse share the facility. The Carrier Dome is the largest domed stadium of any college campus, and is the largest dome on the Northeastern U.S. The facility is sponsored by Carrier air conditioning, though there is no air conditioning in the stadium as the regional temperatures hardly ever fluctuate away from room temperature.
