Temple University Owls are recognized as the first ever team to win the National Collegiate Championship in 1938. Though the first NCAA Tournament was not held until the following year, Temple's NIT tournament win earned them the honor of national champions. In the 1950's, the Owls earned to Final Four appearances. Under Head Coach John Chaney, Temple reached the NCAA Tournament 17 times and the Elite Eight five times.
The Temple Owls play their home games at the Peter J. Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The arena was opened in 1997 and seats 10,224 fans.
