2011-2012 West Virginia Mountianeers College Basketball Preview:
Despite being overlooked by many, the Mountaineers were 11-7 in the Big East conference last year and 20-11 overall, not bad for the boys from Morgantown. With this year’s roster a healthy mix of new and returning players, fans should expect an even better performance from the yellow and blue this season.
Although junior forward Dominique Rutledge has been suspended indefinitely, the team has a host of offensive weapons at its disposal. The squad lost leading scorer Casey Mitchel but fans should expect senior Kevin Jones to pick up the slack. The 6' 8" forward averaged 13.1 points and 7.5 rebounds last year and led all current league players in these categories during conference games.
Expect junior Aaric Murray to step up his play this year. He's the squad’s upperclass big man, a 6' 10" center who knows how to use his length to block shots. This kid from Philly is said to be agile enough to play in the West Virginia system and led the team in blocked shots with 2.3 per game. With Murray dominating at one end and Rutledge making it rain in the other, fans should expect a stellar season.

The West Virginia Mountianeers play hoops in the Big East Conference. The program has experienced varied success, with a streak of successes in the late 1950's and early 1960's. The team has reached the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament five times, and have moved on to the Elite Eight twice in the history of the program. In 1959, the Mountaineers went all the way to the Final Four, but lost to California. However, West Virginia captured the 1942 NIT Championship and the 2007 NIT contest.
West Virginia plays thier home games at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, West Virginia. The 14,000 seat facility is built in a circular construction, and features a poured concrete roof. The arena is host to WV basketball, volleyball, wrestling, and gymnastics.
