The Michigan Wolverines have been appearing in the NCAA Tournament off and on since the late '40s. Though the Wolverines have pitted double digit tournament runs they have only been able to bring home the hardware once. In 1989 Michigan was able to go undefeated in the NCAA Tournament and beat out #3 Seton Hall 80-79 in overtime winning their first and only NCAA Championship.
Shortly after Michigan's championship run the school recruited five freshmen in 1991 that have become, in many ways, more important to the schools legacy than their one championship. Commonly known as the Fab Five, Chris Webber, Juwan Howard, Jalen Rose, Jimmy King, and Ray Jackson took the Wolverines to the '92 and '93 NCAA Championship game as freshman and sophomores. The Fab Five would never get a championship victory but will forever be known as modern day basketball pioneers.
