2011-2012 Northwestern Wildcats College Basketball Preview:
Northwestern University basketball is set to kick off with an explosive start this November. The Wildcats will begin their Big Ten season against some great teams, a difficult schedule that will test the mettle of the players and help to establish their personality in the division. A number of fresh faces, as well as some familiar veterans, are pumped to help boost the ball club to the top of the heap.
Senior forward John Shurna had an impressive 2010-2011 season and was selected to the John R. Wooden Award watch list this year. After averaging 16.6 points per game and a staggering 62.3 percent from the three-point line, Shurna earned All-America pre-season honors. His effort helped the Cats attain 20 wins last season and may go down as one of the greatest scoring machines in the college's history.
Defense will be the name of the game now and a spark from the players could see the Wildcats enter the NCAA tournament for the first time ever. Senior Davide Curletti has said that the team is inherently focused upon this goal and with another impressive season they might just accomplish it.

The Northwestern Wildcats are an NCAA men's basketball team playing in the Big Ten Conference. Northwestern began playing basketball in 1901. The team won their last conference title in 1933, and have never appeared in an NCAA Tournament, despite having hosted the first ever NCAA Division I Championship game in 1939. The Wildcats have appeared in the NIT only three times.
The Wildcats play their home games at the Welsh-Ryan Arena, which has a capacity of 8,117. The multi-purpose arena is located in Evanston, Illinois, and was opened in 1952. The arena hosted the 1956 NCAA Final Four.
