Ohio State's NCAA Tournament career started with their first bid in 1939 and has continually gotten better every year. The Buckeyes have maintained a consistent track record as a tournament team with the longest span of not making a tournament at only 8 years from 1971 to 1980. In 1939 the Buckeyes would get their first shot at becoming national champions but had to settle for the runner up position behind Oregon. It would take Ohio State another 21 years before getting a second chance at the title but in 1960 the Buckeyes would not disappoint. Making their way through the Midwest region of the bracket Ohio State took home their only national championship blowing out Cal 75-55 in the final game of the NCAA Tournament.
Since winning the national title in the 1960 tournament the Buckeyes have been cursed with the runner up position. Ohio State made it to the championship game the following 2 years in '61 and '62 and again in 2007 but were unable to pull out victories in either of the three games. The Buckeyes last trip to the Final Four came in 2012 where they lost a last second shootout to Kansas 64-62. Always a favorite in the tournament Ohio State will continue to represent the Big Ten as on of college basketballs best going forward.
