2011-2012 Penn State Nittany Lions College Basketball Preview:
A Nittany Lion, Penn State's mascot, is a big cat from the mountains, an animal certainly exists on the hardwood floor of the university's Bryce Jordan Center. The team is ready to roar coming into the 2011-2012 season and will definitely be looking to establish themselves come November.
Although some fans will miss Billy Oliver, power forward Brandon Taylor committed to the team in September and will make his mark by using his ball handling, three-point shooting ability and overall versatility. At 6' 7" and 230 pounds, this freshman will not be afraid to bang around with the big boys near the hoop either.
With two big seven footers in the paint this season, opponents may have trouble getting inside. Both Patrick Ackerman and Peter Alexis will provide some much needed size on the court, as well as some shot blocking capabilities with their long arms. Local boy Alexis was considered a top Big Ten recruit by ESPN as he averaged 18.8 in his sophomore year of high school. Expect a spectacular season from the new blood at Penn State come fall.
