2011-2012 Houston Cougars College Basketball Preview:
After a disappointing 2010-2011 season, the Cougars are looking to put the past behind them and get prepared for an exciting November. Coach James Dickey took some time to get used to the program last year and now that he's settling into his second season, the squad will be more adequately adapted to his style.
Dickey is a season veteran of the NCAA tournament and his guidance may pay off for the squad in tight games. Of course, the addition of TaShawn Thomas helps a great deal. Considered one of the best shot blockers in Texas during his tenure at Killeen High School, Thomas also has the ability to distribute the ball and shoot off the dribble.
Thomas averaged 4 blocks per game in his senior year, which helped him capture his area's most valuable player award. Along with this freshman standout, the team picked up guard Jherrod Stiggers, a 6' 5'' long range shooter who can knock down the three-ball or finish explosively. With these two freshmen on the floor, fans may see the Cougars return to their winning ways.
