Marshall Thundering Herd gained basketball prominence under head coach Cam Henderson. Under Henderson, Marshall went 358-158 from 1935-1955. The 1946-47 team was an all-around powerhouse, setting school records with 32 wins in a season, a 17-0 season start and a 35-game home winning streak. In the same year, the Thundering Herd won the NAIA basketball Championship.
