The University of Mississippi Rebels basketball team is one of the most beloved programs in the South. Ole Miss played its first basketball game on January 28th, 1909. By 1998 the Rebels had won over 900 games, placing them among the winningest programs in the Southeast. The team competed in its first NCAA tournament in 1981, and has made the big dance half a dozen times since. In 2001, the Rebels advanced all the way to the Sweet Sixteen, making it the most successful tournament appearance in program history. Ole Miss is a member of the Southeastern Conference, placing them against the top competition in the South. The team has also competed in over 10 National Invitation Tournaments, making it to the semifinals of the postseason tournament in both 2008, and 1010. The Ole Miss Rebels basketball team plays their home games at C. M. Tad Smith Coliseum in University, Mississippi. Tad Smith Coliseum has been home to the Rebels since 1966, and can seat over 8,800 fans. Originally known as Rebel Coliseum, the arena was renamed in 1972 in honor of “Tad Smith” a 3sport letterman, coach, and AD at Ole Miss. The exterior of the stadium sports a red brick with blue vinyl covered steel siding, to reflect the colors of the Rebels. Inside the arena is an iconic domed roof, which rises to about 90 feet above the hardwood. Known to Rebel nation as the “Tad Pad,” C.M. Tad Smith Coliseum is one of the iconic basketball venues in the South. The arena has been the scene of many of the SEC’s greatest games.
