2011-2012 UNLV Rebels College Basketball Preview:
In the 2010-11 season, the UNLV Rebels men's basketball team finished 24-9, with a record of 12-5 at home. Despite finishing above .500 last year, the Rebels are still looking to improve. In 2011-12, expect UNLV to give other teams in the Mountain West Conference a run for their money.
Offensively, the team has improved since last season with a number of highly-talented players expected to shine on the court. Bryce Jones, Reggie Smith and Kendall Wallace are all clutch players, especially when games are close. With their ability to knock down basket after basket from the free throw line, this offense may very well be one of the best in the conference.
The Rebels have a number of aggressive players who are expected to boost the defense as well. Carlos Lopez, Brice Massamba and Chace Stanback are the big men to have down the court, as they consistently post strong rebound and block stats. As the 2011-12 season rolls on, don't count the Rebels out early, even if they have a few hiccups along the way. UNLV is expected to be a top competitor in the Mountain West Conference this year.

The UNLV Rebels rose to prominence as a national NCAA basketball contender in the late 1970's after the "Hardway Eight" led the team to UNLV's first ever Final Four. During the 1976-77 season, the UNLV Rebels established NCAA records left and right, including most points in a season, most 100-point games and most consecutive 100-point games. In 1990, UNLV won the NCAA National Championship against Duke by a margin of 30 points, and it was the first time a team scored over 100 points in the championship game. The Rebels have since been a dominant program, and consistently produce winning teams that reach the NCAA Tournament.
The UNLV Rebels play their home basketball games at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The arena has a seating capacity of 18,776 for basketball events.
