The Utah Utes have been a perennially successful program, recording the tenth most wins among college basketball programs all-time. The team has made 28 NCAA Tournaments, including a NCAA Tournament championship in 1944. The team has seen the Final Four four times, most recently in 1998 under coach Rick Majerus. The Utes would compete in the National Championship game in 1998, and would lose to Kentucky.The 1998 Utah Utes basketball season is often regarded as one of the finest seasons for the program since the team advanced to the championship without being a member of a Power Conference.
Utah plays their home basketball games at the Jon M. Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Center, opened in 1969, seat 15,000 spectators. The 1979 NBA Finals were held at the Huntsman Center in an epic battle between Larry Bird's Indiana State team and Magic Johnson's Michigan State team. The game remains the most watched college basketball game in history.
