NCAA Mens Basketball West Regional Preview History
Session 1 - West Regional Semi-Finals:
3/27 @ 4:47pm - #6 Baylor Bears vs. #2 Wisconsin Badgers
The 2014 NCAA Tournament West Regional will get underway with #6 Baylor vs # 2 Wisconsin on March 27 at 7:17pm. Prior to landing in the Sweet 16, the Baylor Bears managed win's over #11 Nebraska and #3 Creighton in the 2nd & 3rd Rounds. With Isaiah Austin controlling the paint at center and power forward Cory Jefferson their to aid, the Bears have been overlooked since falling out of national relevance during the regular season. The Bears solidified their stance as a top Final Four contender with the huge 85-55 routing over #3 Creighton and will need to continue that type of production to get past a strong Wisconsin team. With a #2 seed in the tournament the Badgers got their first challenge in the 2nd round against Oregon, though the score reflects little challenge from Wisconsin. With wins in the regular season over top ranked teams including Iowa, Illinois, Michigan State, and Florida, the Badgers know what it takes to win. Perimeter shooting from Jackson(.500%) and Brust(.533%) is what makes Wisconsin so dangerous and allow them to turn the table on a game in a minimal amount possessions. If the Bears struggle to contend the Badgers beyond the arc this game could get out of hand quick, however Baylor can make up lost ground if Wisconsin loses the battle in the paint.
3/27 @ 7:17pm - #1 Arizona Wildcats vs. #4 San Diego State Aztecs
Game two of the Sweet 16 in the West will pit one of the tournament's favorites, Arizona, against a Sweet 16 new-comer, San Diego State. The Aztecs have been a consistent team in the tournament in recent years but have never made it past the third round. Expect an extra surge of motivation from SDSU on the court and in the stands as the Aztecs take the court in Anaheim, just an hour and a half north of campus. The stars aligned perfectly for San Diego State with a North Dakota State upset over OU in the first round leaving the #4 seed Aztecs with the 12 and 13 seed's to contest. This may end up hurting SDSU as they get ready to step on to the court with Arizona, a team that has faced the best of the best on a national scale all season long. The Wildcats are also making their second consecutive Sweet 16 appearance and know how to handle the pressure's of the game. With two of the nations top shooters in Johnson and Gordon, the Aztecs have a daunting task ahead of them, but as the tournament has proved year in and year out; anything can happen in March.
Session 2 - West Regional Final:
