The predecessor conference to the Pac-10 was the Pacific Coast Conference, which began playing basketball in the 1915-1916 season. In 2000, the Pac-10 reverted to its original format, giving the regualar season conference champion an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The tournament is played at the Staples Center in Los Angeles every year.
