2011-2012 Arizona Wildcats College Basketball Preview:
One of the all-time great college basketball programs, Arizona is a perpetual motion machine. Very rarely does a year go by when it’s not being mentioned as one of the top school in the country, and 2011-12 won’t be any different. While they lost two key components from their NCAA Elite Eight run last year--Derrick Williams and Momo Jones—head coach Sean Miller doesn’t see any need to change courses with a team that looks to go far.
A main part of that is a top-10 recruiting class Miller’s bringing in, including power forwards Sidiki Johnson and Angelo Chol, and point guards Nick Johnson and Josiah Turner, the latter already in the discussion for a one-and-done tenure in Tuscon. Even with the possibility of Turner’s brief tenure, Miller’s rotation is deep enough not to rely on one or two players. Last year’s Pac-10 All-Freshman selection honorable mention, shooting guard Jordin Mayes, can hit 45% from beyond the arc; the team’s most experienced player, Senior SG Kyle Fogg, is the team’s best defender with a Pac-10 All-Defensive team honorable mention under his belt; Kyryl Natyazhko and Alex Jacobson are both frontcourt monsters who are able to control the paint.
Under Miller, the Arizona Wildcats have become a team rather than a group of possible one-and-done players. Because of that, their regression stays at a minimum and looks to solidify another title for the team in Tuscon.
