2011-2012 Colorado Buffaloes College Basketball Preview:
To call this a transition year for the Buffs is an understatement—the team will undergo a lot of change. Colorado does not only have to deal with a new conference–moving from the Big-12 to the Pac-12—but also the loss of four of their starters.
Their key loss was shooting guard Alec Burks, who will be a member of the Utah Jazz whenever the NBA returns. In his stead, Utah transfer Carlon Brown will head up the backcourt for head coach Tad Boyle’s squad. Boyle is looking to boost his backcourt rotation that will run five players deep, including junior Nate Tomlinson, freshman Spencer Dinwiddie and junior college transfer Jeremy Adams.
However, as the team tries to remake itself in a Pac-12 run style not usually seen in the Big 12, it may be their throwback small forward Andre Roberson who is the key to the season. Last year, the then-freshman broke team season records for rebounds and blocked shots despite not starting any games. If he can take it to a next level, the sophomore may make the Buffs a team to look out for in the Pac-12.

The program’s best years came in between 1936 and 1976 when Colorado would win 5 conference titles, make 5 NCAA Tournament appearances and 2 NIT appearances. Colorado would then see a downturn in fortunes until the 1990’s under coach Ricardo Patton, who would finally lead the Buffaloes back to the NCAA’s with the help of players like Chauncey Billups. Colorado has competed in ten NCAA tournaments, and has won one National Invitational Tournament in 1940.In 2011, the team made their move to the Pac-12 Conference.
