Duck nation has one of the youngest NCAA Tournament careers with only 11 appearances. Oregon saw their tournament highlight come in the 1938-39 season with the "Tall Firs", a nickname given to the Ducks team due to their towering stature compared to opponents on the court at the time. The "Tall Firs" were not only the first Oregon team to win a national title, they were the first team to win the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship which started with the 1939 season. With two more appearances in the '60s, it wasn't until the 2000's that the Ducks began to emerge as a NCAA Tournament Regular.
Oregon's recent emergence in the tournament has been a building process but a process none the less. The Ducks have seen more tournament success in the last decade than they had in the 50 plus years after winning the title in 39 making it to the Sweet 16 in '02, '07, '13 and the Elite 8 in '02 and '07.
