Pittsburgh Panthers Rivals

Pitt vs. West Virginia

The rivalry between Pittsburgh and West Virginia stretches to the other college sports as well in the “Backyard Brawl.” The intensity remains even though both teams no longer play in the same conference. With both universities separated by 75 miles on Interstate 79, the close proximity only adds fire to this heated match-up.

Pitt vs. Duquesne

Dating back to 1932, this rivalry is known as the “City Game” and intensified quickly because of both Universities fighting for bragging rights in this crosstown match-up. Overall, the two schools have met over 80 times in their history with the peak of the rivalry happening in the late 1970s because of both teams competing in the Eastern Eight Conference.
