Arkansas Razorback 2011-12 Men’s College Basketball Preview
While the Razorback’s recent history pales in comparison to the Nolan Richardson-led teams of the 90s, an influx of new talent will come into Little Rock in hopes of bringing them back. The first is a throwback to the Richardson team, new head coach Mike Anderson. The former Missouri coach was an assistant under Richardson for 17 years before getting his shot. Now, it’s up to him to restore the former glory to the team in Bud Walton Arena.
The first issue Anderson must meet is the loss of last year’s top scorer, shooting guard Rotnei Clarke, who transferred to Butler. While a hard loss, it may be smoothed over by freshman shooting guard BJ Young. Young, ESPNU’s fourth-ranked point guard in last year’s recruiting class, will look to make an immediate impact, even at the 2 position. He will join top-75 recruits, Rashad Madden, the team’s new small forward, and center Hunter Mickelson.
The question will be how long it will be before the team meshes, with only two upperclassmen—juniors point guard Julysses Nobles and last year’s second leading scorer power forward Marshan Powell—leading the team. It looks like once that’s answered, the team will be a very dangerous team.
