Often overshadowed by its very popular football program, the Auburn Tigers basketball team is one to watch in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) this season. With head coach Jeff Lebo finally turning a corner after rebuilding the team from losing seasons in 2004 and 2005, the Tigers look poised to climb back up the ranks of the SEC and vie for an NCAA Tournament bid. The Auburn Tigers first began playing basketball in 1905 under coach Mike Donahue. The programs greatest success came during the 14 seasons coached by Joel Eaves in the 1950’s and early ‘60s. Eaves would lead Auburn to a record of 124-75. Auburn has 2 regular season conference titles to its credit in 1960 and 1999, as well as one SEC tournament title in 1985, and 8 NCAA Tournament appearances.
