LSU Tigers 2011-12 Men’s College Basketball Preview
It has been a trying two years for Tigers’ head coach Trent Johnson. He’s lost the recruiting battle for his own players a few times, and it has depleted his ranks. However, this year Johnson has scored two coups of his own, bringing in junior center Justin Hamilton from Iowa State and signing 6’11 McDonalds All-American power forward Jonny O’Bryant.

With these two pieces, Johnson will run his offense through the front court, playing a slower-tempo game. It will help that two of their better forwards didn’t transfer or graduate. Senior forwards Malcolm White and Storm Warren will be coming back from injuries and ineffectiveness to help increase team stamina by rotating in and out with the youngster O’Bryant. Bringing up the ball will be sophomores Ralston Turner and Andre Stringer, the Tigers’ two top scorers from last season. If the team can form around its new identity, Trent Johnson might be looking at a great year in Baton Rouge.

LSU TIGERS EXPERIENCE:
Location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Stadium: Pete Maravich Assembly Center
Conference: SEC Conference
Rivals: Arkansas Razorbacks

The LSU Tigers basketball program was founded in 1909.  The LSU Tigers first played in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association and then the Southern Conference before joining the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in 1933.  In 1935, the LSU Tigers would win what’s considered to be their one and only national title so far under Coach Harry Rabenhorst.  There was no tournament then, so championships have been awarded based on polls at the time.  The LSU Tigers would also win 3 SEC Championships under Rabenhorst.  In the late ‘60s, LSU would have the talent of sensational guard Pete Maravich on the court and would make it to the NIT Final Four.  Beginning in 1978, LSU began a run that would make them perennial NCAA Tournament participants and give them 5 more SEC titles.  Shaquille O’Neal helped contribute to this success from 1989-1992.  Other than Maravich and O’Neal, LSU has also been led by prominent players like Tyrus Thomas, Glen Davis, Chris Jackson, and Bob Pettit.

The LSU Tigers play basketball at Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  The crowd volume inside is commonly called “the Deaf Dome”.  Attending a game there is one of the great college basketball experiences.  Buy LSU Tigers basketball tickets and be a part of a storied basketball tradition!
